Representing Electronic Component Data in Hardware Description Languages
نویسنده
چکیده
Electronic component data, commonly known as ‘‘data sheets’’ are the sustenance of a circuit designer. Each new book of data sheets possibly solves some outstanding idea or design problem. Given such a prominent role in a designer’s life, it is of critical importance that data sheet representation in a computer be more than just a photographic image of the original. This paper examines some of the issues in the computer representation of data sheets for active components. It begins by examining different types of data sheets along with the varying types of representation required. Next, the issues of data and parameter representation are described. The problems of describing the behavior, or model definition immediately follows, concluding with the problems of assembly and test. 1. An overview of data sheets Electronic component data, commonly known as ‘‘data sheets’’ are the sustenance of a circuit designer. Each new book of data sheets possibly solves some outstanding idea or design problem. Given such a prominent role in a designer’s life, it is of critical importance that data sheet representation in a computer be more than just a photographic image of the original. Semiconductor manufacturers are already supplying some data on floppy disks and CDROMs but these are mostly limited to SPICE ( Nagel ) models of analog parts. The dearth of digital specifications is especially galling given the widespread acceptance of Hardware Description Languages (HDLs) like VHDL (IEEE 1988)(Menchini 1993) and Verilog (Thomas and Moorby. 1991).

HeDLa: A Strongly Typed, Component-Based Embedded Hardware Description Language
Over the past years, various techniques for the embedding of hardware description languages within general purpose languages have been developed and explored. In particular, numerous HDLs embedded in strongly typed functional languages have been developed and used for different applications. A common trait of most of these languages is that they treat hardware components as functions or relatio...
متن کاملImplementation of Face Recognition Algorithm on Fields Programmable Gate Array Card
The evolution of today's application technologies requires a certain level of robustness, reliability and ease of integration. We choose the Fields Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) hardware description language to implement the facial recognition algorithm based on "Eigen faces" using Principal Component Analysis. In this paper, we first present an overview of the PCA used for facial recognition,...
متن کاملA calculus for hardware description
In efforts to overcome the complexity of the syntax and the lack of formal semantics of conventional hardware description languages, a number of functional hardware description languages have been developed. Like conventional hardware description languages, however, functional hardware description languages eventually convert all source programs into netlists, which describe wire connections in...
متن کاملEffiziente Integration von Hardwarebeschreibungen in Simulink-TDF-Simulationen
Simulation is an essential tool for development and verification of embedded systems. But key challenges arise from the growing complexity of such systems, ongoing miniaturization, and the increasing integration density. Complex heterogeneous systems are realised as System-in-Package containing software, digital hardware, analogue electronic parts, as well as optical components. In their develo...
متن کاملStucture and Behaviour in Hardware Verification
In this paper we review how hardware has been described in the formal hardware verification community. Recent developments in hardware description are evaluated against the background of the use of hardware description languages, and also in relation to programming languages. The notions of structure and behaviour are crucial to this
